USING A JOURNAL FOR YOU

Using a Journal to boost creativity, including hints and tips.

For me crafting is more than a hobby, it’s like a coping mechanism. Crafting to take you mind off the hum drum of work and parenting.

I often get frustrated that I can’t just craft every day but with a slight issue of a mortgage to pay. Yet I have to remind myself what does crafting actually does for me as a person

It’s an escape, making something new, taking me away from the right now of mortgages, kids and quite frankly at the moment all the bad news of the world.

But for me there are times I even struggle to craft. I really do have to be in the mood. Recently I’ve just not been in the mood. Other things have taken over the little brain space I have left for creativeness.

Sometimes you need to do the right thing for your mind. Writers have writers block occasionally, it seems when things just get a bit too much I’m not even in the mood for crafts! I know!

I’ve realised recently that crafting isn’t about getting it right or letting it become something that’s pressured. It will be when it will be!

Illness doesn’t help. Surrounding influences don’t help either. What’s going on in the world at the moment is heartbreaking and that can really affect someone’s mood and mental health that crafting seems insignificant.

I attended a journalling class last night as a local craft centre. I’ve always been interested in journalling but I never seem to commit longer than a week. We got to cover a journal with pictures we cut out from a magazine that represent us in a positive way then the class leader took us the trough why we should journal and how to journal in a way that benefits us.

As you can tell I love to write and I can’t wait to get started. I know journal can have so many benefits to mental health, hopefully this will get me away from the blip I’m in.

HINTS AND TIPS

  1. It is your journal so no one else will read it so make it all about you.
  2. Write about what interests you to help you to keep writing
  3. What to write in the journal is completely up to you, but try to keep is a positive place to help improve your mental health
  4. Great topics a journal could have could be, food, travel, achievements and goals or even business plans.
  5. Writing is key, writing a journal could also just be about what you have done that day or a gratitude journal.

Consistency is key — grab a notebook and pen and get started!
